The Rivington Park Photographic and Art Centre opened it's doors in March 2005 and has developed rapidly since then.
We started as a gallery for the display of photographic work by local amateur photographers but this has changed over the years as more artists and craftsmen have asked to join the group.
Spring Cottage, the home of the centre, has been on this site since the 17 th century and whilst the buildings are not particularly old (maybe 18th century onwards) the history of the place can be felt in every room.
It is in a beautiful spot, set low down in the woodland and right by it's own stream - a haven of peace and tranquility surrounded by trees and wildlife and yet within a few miles of Bolton, Wigan and Chorley and only 19 miles from the centre of Manchester.
We have natural locations all around and the area is perfect for anyone wishing to break from the stress of modern life and enjoy the parkland set asside by Lord Lever at the beginning of the last century for the people of Bolton and Lancashire.
The park is now managed by United Utilities who have taken over the mantle of protecting and caring for the conservation area around Rivington.
In addition to the original art and photographic galleries we now offer tuition in many creative areas and thsi provides a perfect opportunity to relax in a friendly atmosphere whilst learning a new skill or developing and honing an existing talent.
